Carp hatcheries are where baby carp are farmed and looked after until they are large enough to fend for themselves living in ponds and lakes. Here at EWater we care for these baby fish and make sure they develop well grown and healthy and ready to tackle the waters!!
Breeding and growing carp begins with adult carp laying eggs in a special tank of clean water. These eggs are then tend to be closely monitored until they become small fish. The baby carp, aka fry, are teeny-tiny little things and require a lot of help if they’re going to grow big and strong. They’re fed a special diet of small insects and plants to help them grow.
It's important to be able to maintain a healthy population of carp for stocking ponds and lakes. When the baby carp are big enough to grow on, they are sent to ponds and lakes, where they can swim around and get even bigger. They are also important for maintaining clean, balanced water, as these healthy carp gobble up algae and other plants.
In order to ensure we always have enough fish swimming in our waters, it’s pretty important to come up with sustainable ways to bolster the numbers of carp. At EWater, we are very environmentally friendly as we hatch and grow our carp – we ensure we don't have a negative impact on our environment. With the use of sustainable practices, we can further bolster the population of carp in the years to come.
Young carp require food, and cover. Baby carp are fed well and provided hiding spots to play and live in the hatchery. Otherwise, they will be well fed and strong when released into the wild. In providing nourishment and refuge, we give young carp everything they need to succeed.
Another key part of the work carried out here at EWater, is working with local ecosystems via carp hatcheries. By shedding light on this and by breeding and rearing carp we are helping to maintain the kind of balance in ponds and lakes that the environment is seeking. Carp are an important animal in keeping water clean and healthy, as they feast on surplus plants and algae. When we do that, we’re supporting all the plants and animals in the water to live well together.
